Matthew makes sculptures, photos, and conceptual works that focus on the human experience through time and space. Focusing on the relationship between people and their environment, he aims to represent human emotion and experience in a physical form. Through these works he aims to entice the viewer to investigate self and what it means to be human.
Matthew normally gets his ideas from personal experience, interactions with other human beings, and his relationship with the environment. His process can be described as methodical, where each step of the process is important in its placement and execution. From the inception of an idea to its final form, care and consideration is given to all moving parts. Matthews’ process follows a linear path, but occasionally opens the possibility to experimentation.
